Porn Stars as Super Heroes

Ancient Pagans believed sex was a key part of a person's path to spiritual enlightenment. So, the Pagan temples had people, men and women, who performed ritual sex acts for the followers. Without movies or photos, much less the Internet, it was the porn of the time. To the Pagans, this serves multiple purposes. Most importantly, it helped raise the divine sexual energy in the observers. Observing these performances also offered interesting ways for people to learn new sexual techniques and practices to add to their own spiritual paths.
These "temple prostitutes" were local celebrities in Pagan culture.
It was the Romans, in their cruel and toxic efforts to destroy the Pagans, that made sex, sexuality shameful. Since then, all kinds of sex work has been made shameful in popular culture. In spite of the sex shame so common in modern culture, sex work and porn has remained across all cultures in all places, because sexuality is a core and natural part of the human experience, in spite of the artificially-applied standards of shame about it.
Thankfully, the shame is changing, because suppressing, shaming or ignoring sexuality is actually damaging and harmful. The Internet, which has allowed people to consume and engage in explicit media sharing is largely credited with peoples' changing attitudes about sex and porn, with billions of people world-wide regularly watching making and sharing porn.
And, while some social media platforms remain draconian about sexual content, others are paving another path, by not only accepting sexual content, but embracing it, with flexible user settings that allow people to exclude explicit content if they are offended by it.
Bluesky, for example, is not only one of the fastest growing social media platforms providing an alternative to the big tech bros, it is one of the most friendly to sexual content, allowing users to create, manage and curate their own feeds that can be as sexually explicit as they want. They are catering to a growing number of people who are creating their own sexual content, openly and without shame, and are helping to erase negative stigma about sex in fun and creative ways.
This new generation of porn starts, actively going against the grain by being publicly sex-positive, being as intimately vulnerable to the world as possible. They teach people, through personal acts of courage, that their sexual urges are healthy, normal and fun. In that way, it is reasonable to consider them a form of modern-day super hero.
For the record, over on Bluesky, we curate a list of gay porn feeds. Check out our profile to see a list of those feeds!
